Rules and Regulations of the Centre for Foreign Languages

Rules and Regulations of the Centre for Foreign Languages

of the Medical University of Warsaw

1. The Centre for Foreign Languages offers courses in modern languages and in Latin in accordance with the study programme for each field of study.

2. The language course concludes with a credit, a graded credit or an exam, depending on the language taught and the field of study.

3. The courses focus on a specialized language tailored to the needs of future graduates.

4. Credits are awarded for class participation, passing grades on partial tests, a final written test, and an oral presentation (for modern languages).

5. In case of absences:

- two absences per semester (equivalent to four 45-minute class sessions): both must be made up for within one week of the date of the absence;

three absences in a semester (equivalent to six 45-minute class sessions): the student is required to submit a request to the Head of the Centre for Foreign Languages asking for permission to make up the third absence on an individual basis; the request must be submitted within seven working days from the date of the third absence;

four or more absences in a semester (equivalent to eight 45-minute class sessions): the student is obliged to repeat the semester (in the case of hospitalisation or a long-term illness confirmed by a medical certificate, the student may apply for permission to make up for the absences in the resit examination session);

- to justify an absence from classes, tests, or exams, the student is required to notify the course instructor by email or in writing no later than three working days after the date on which the class, test, or exam took place;

- the student must submit the medical certificate justifying the absence to the course coordinator within 7 working days of the date the certificate was issued.

6. The student is obliged to take a written final test on the scheduled date. If the student fails to attend or does not pass the test, they are entitled to one resit date set by the instructor. The resit test must be passed no later than before the start of the examination session. If the student fails the resit, they are entitled to a second resit date in accordance with the Study Regulations of the Medical University of Warsaw.

7. A student applying for exemption from the language course (grade transfer) should submit an appropriate request to the Head of the Centre for Foreign Languages in the first week of classes. For first-year students, grades will not be transferred if the course was not completed in the same field of study, in the same mode, at the Medical University of Warsaw.

8. The form of examination is announced to students in the syllabus and the teaching guide for the given field and year of study.

9. Holding a foreign language certificate or a credit for a language course from another field of study at MUW or another university does not exempt the student from attending the classes required by the curriculum of their current field of study.

10. If classes are moved online, they will take place according to the previously established schedule in the form of video meetings, during which both the instructor and the students must have their webcams turned on. Failure to turn on the camera during class will be treated as the student's absence.

11. Matters not covered by these regulations will be resolved individually by the Head of the Centre for Foreign Languages.
